JR Stars

JR Stars

The Junior Stars Division is a recreational league for boys and girls who are turning 5 and 6 years old in the calendar year. All practices and games will be held at the Englewood Soccer Complex at Ward field on Hoke Rd in Englewood. Practice days/times are held at the volunteer coaches' preference, and could be once or twice a week. All games will be played on Saturdays and/or Sundays with the possibility of a weekday game through the course of the season.

Equipment needed to play: ball, cleats with no toe spike, shin guards and socks long enough to cover shin guards. We highly encourage bringing a water bottle, or you can buy one at the concession stand during games.

RULES OF THE GAME:

  1. Heading is not allowed in 6v6 games.
    • If a player heads the ball in a game, whether deliberately or accidentally, an indirect free kick should be awarded to the opposing team from the spot of the offense.
  2. When the goalkeeper has the ball in his or her hands during play from the opponent, the opposing team must move behind the build-out line until the ball is put into play.  Once the opposing team is behind the build-out line, the goalkeeper can pass, throw, or roll the ball into play (punts and drop kicks are not allowed).
    • If a goalkeeper punts or drop kicks the ball, an indirect free kick should be awarded to the opposing team from the spot of the offense.
    • After the ball is put into play by the goalkeeper, the opposing team can cross the build out line and play resumes as normal.
  3. The opposing team must also move behind the build-out line before a goal kick and may only cross the build-out line once the ball is kicked and moved.
    • However, the goalkeeper can put the ball into play sooner but he or she does so accepting the positioning of the opponents and the consequences of how play resumes.
  4. Referees should be flexible when enforcing the 6-second rule.
  5. While there is no off-sides in this league, any player that is deemed to be “Cherry Picking” will be called for unsportsmanlike conduct and an indirect kick will be awarded from the spot of the offense.
  6. Only one coach from each team is allowed on the field during gameplay.  That coach is only allowed to travel in the area between their opponent’s build-out line and the top of their own team’s penalty area.  No coaches are allowed inside either penalty area during active play.
  7. Coaches on the field may not physically contact any players during play, even their team. Coaches are on the field for verbal instructions only.
